I have a 4 story building sprinklered type IIA construction building that is primarily B occupancy but there is a large dining area/cafeteria (A occupancy) on the first floor. The dining area is about 3,600 SF and the total floor is 21,868 SF.
Since the space is more than 10% of the floor area I can't count it as an accessory occupancy. However, is there any way I can get away from having to have a fire separation between the assembly space and the rest of the floor? The total building is about 74,000 SF.
