Automatic marking of topic as being read

With the old version of the forms once we read a thread it was marked as such and only showed up as having new posts when additional posts were made. With this version it appears that posts only show up as being read when we click the "Mark Channels Read" button on the top of the page? Is there some way to get the old functionality back?

Okay I found how I can do this manually but there has to be some way to do it automatically! Does anybody have any ideas?

Mark Channels Read doesn't work for me. What's your secret?

Marking the forum read doesn't work neither does actually reading the threads. I'm using Tap talk on android

It actually seems like sometimes I can mark them as being read and sometimes I can't! Very frustrating to say the least.
