Fire Protection of Walls in Metal Building with Industrial Ovens

Does the room the ovens are in require rated walls?

So far an analysis of 2018 IBC and IFC indicates no; walls enclosing the space or room or building where industrial ovens are located are not required to be fire or smoke resistive.

Given:
Class B ovens.
Btu/hr greater than 400,000.
Fully Automatic Sprinkler in accordance with NFPA 13 installed throughout building.

Analysis:
-not finding anything in IBC requiring rated walls for fire or smoke protection of walls where ovens are located
-2018 IFC 3003 outlines the location criteria for the ovens; there is no requirement listed for rated building/enclosure/room walls. 3006.1 requires an approved automatic fire extinguishing system; there is no requirement listed for rated walls.
-NFPA 86 lists specific criteria for the oven itself, but doesn’t appear to list any specific requirements as far as walls rated for fire or smoke protection...

Manufacturers Installation Instructions do provide general criteria for the location where installed (minus any specific reference to rated walls); only cite NFPA 86, though. Not very useful.

What is the main occupancy of the building?

The oven is only a piece of equipment,,,,, Normally
 
Ovens do not drive separation of uses.

What are the ovens used for? What occupancy classification are you working under?

Type 1 hood will typically have 1-hr fire resistance rated construction behind the appliances.

I think he is talking walk in oven, for some process, like paint finish or metal work

Ovens are walk in for industrial use, specifically for use in processing large scale materials similar to firing ceramics.

Main occupancy is F-2.
