2018 IBC 1202.3 Unvented enclosed rafter assemblies.

Never mind. ICC answered my question.

2018 IBC 1202.3 Unvented enclosed rafter assemblies.

Does this section apply whether or not the building is conditioned. I thought it was a preventative against condensation in an enclosed assembly which can occur with or without conditioning of the space below. I ask because in item 1 of the conditions having to be met the code states, "The...

2018 IBC 1103.2.2 Employee Work Areas. Circular or 'T' space.

Understood. And I do. In this case I am dealing with an architect who designs all of the buildings for a certain state university. A legend in their own mind, if you will.

2018 IBC 1103.2.2 Employee Work Areas. Circular or 'T' space.

Thanks for your input. I spoke with the accessibility expert at ICC and the situation I am looking at is considered the difference between what is the minimum code requirement, and what is good design. This one meets the minimum code requirement. There are only a few rooms which require a...

2018 IBC 1103.2.2 Employee Work Areas. Circular or 'T' space.

I posted this the other day but I may have posted in the wrong category. When complying with "approach, enter and exit the work area" portion of the code, would every space with a single exit/exit access, no matter the room size (closet exception noted), be required to have a circular or 'T'...

Drinking Fountains and Accessible Bathrooms Required?

The July 1, 2021 Suppliment to the 2019 CPC provided footnote 7 to t422.1 which could offer a route for the AHJ to allow exclusion of the urinal in the single occupant toilet room of your group B occupancy of less than 50 occupants. "In accordance to Sections 1.8.7 and 301.3, the Authority...

2018 IBC 1103.2.2 Employee Work Areas. Circular or 'T' space.

When complying with "approach, enter and exit the work area" portion of the code, would every space with a single exit/exit access, no matter the room size (closet exception noted), be required to have a circular or 'T' space (304.3.1 & 304.3.2 ICC A117.1-2009) for persons in wheelchairs to turn...

    Community All Gender Restrooms

ccanney, He didn't say "toilet compartment", he said "toilet rooms". It is my understanding, that at this juncture, the California codes have no provisions for multi-occupant all gender toilet rooms. The closest you'll get is Unisex (Single User or Family) toilet rooms as described in...

    Drive-Thru Windows

I'm not an expert, but I have taken these type of windows in sections and get them to pass COM-check as well as the California requirements without the air curtain. In COM-check, the fixed window portion most closely resembles a storefront constructed glazing and the operable portion, which is...

CBC 1209.2.2 Walls and partitions. RE: Walls at a service sink.

I appreciate your responding and I agree that wall protection at a service sink is a very good idea. My question and point is, that whether it is CBC or IBC the code section cited by the AHJ is titled Toilet and Bathroom Requirements. Not Laundry room or Janitor's closet or more specifically...

CBC 1209.2.2 Walls and partitions. RE: Walls at a service sink.

When it comes to service sinks in a janitor's closet, laundry room or any location other than a toilet or bathroom, is the smooth, hard, nonabsorbent surface required? If yes, please reference the code. I have been called on this for violation of 1209.2.2 even though Section 1209 is specifically...

Toilet compartment depth vs maneuvering space in front of toilet

ADAguy, Where would I find the proposed draft? I can't seem to locate it on CA.gov.

Toilet compartment depth vs maneuvering space in front of toilet

Yes, Thank you Steveray. Now all I need is to find documented clarification from CA DSA that says if I have an oversized compartment with more than the minimum door approach maneuvering space within it, the 4" maximum is not required.

Toilet compartment depth vs maneuvering space in front of toilet

I had never noticed the lack of ADA WC height in the ambulatory compartment section of code. Thanks for that ADA Guy. I have a question to you on the subject of wheelchair accessible toilet compartments. Specifically 11B-604.8.1.2 and the 4" maximum requirement with regard to the door opening...

Are all single hole toilet rooms required to be accessible

California does have an out for small occupancies. CPC 415.2 (Last sentence) Drinking fountains shall not be required for an occupant load of 30 or less.

    Thanks for your responses.

Are hand towels or a hand dryer REQUIRED in a public restroom?

I have searched through all I can find on this topic, relative to the state of California. Other than OSHA requiring them for employees and food handling, I cannot see a requirement for them in a general public restroom. Can anyone offer an actual code siting?

2015 IBC Section 1103.2.5 Construction sites.

Other parts of the means of egress code, 1009.3 and exception 2 & 5 also lead me to question why we wouldn't be able to use the interior stairway(s) as the accessible means of egress rather than an elevator.

2015 IBC Section 1103.2.5 Construction sites.

Modular, sprinklered, VB construction of 60x60 2 story and 60x204 2 story contractor teams offices. These will be set on foundations for a very large construction project. The local jurisdiction has approved "Temporary" for 10 years and by siting the code in this thread heading are not requiring...

C404.5 Efficient heated water supply piping.

Thank you for this. I read 2013 ANSI/ASHRAE/IESNA 90.1 section 7. Is it just me, or are these same requirements not even touched on?

C404.5 Efficient heated water supply piping.

Thank you for your reply. I finally was able to get a technical opinion from ICC and the interpretation from the BO is correct. Basically the energy code is written to force the use of a circulating system or heat trace as you mentioned. We are currently redesigning our system with the...

C404.5 Efficient heated water supply piping.

I was introduced to this section of the code for the first time in a recent plan review. I'm still scratching my head. Our plumbing specialist and I read and re read this and the subsequent sections many times. The official stated that since we were using 1/2" NP pipe (Which was fully insulated)...

Are riser rooms exclusive to the required valves etc.. ?

Thank You! This is a single story building. I figured the lack of code was my answer, but just in case I missed it during my bed time story reading I thought I check with more resources.

Are riser rooms exclusive to the required valves etc.. ?

I have a set of plans for a new building which the architect has included a water heater in the small riser room. It is located on the opposite side of the room from the riser. Is this type of appliance allowed in a riser room or is the room to be exclusively for the riser and associated...
