Minimum room size to require ventilation?

yea generally agree with this, my room was a 65 sf storage room, so it was very on the fence of closet vs room. ultimately decided to provide ventilation since it did show up on the life safety plans as having an occupant, although maybe the building inspector wouldn't have cared if i didn't...

Minimum room size to require ventilation?

HVAC mechanical ventilation, this is in the middle of a large floor and the windows are non-operable anyway

Minimum room size to require ventilation?

thank you! this is a 65 sf storage room in a large commercial floor in a high-rise building. the life safety plan does call out one occupant at 1 person / 300 sf. but it also calls out the electrical room as one occupant and i know the code does not require electrical rooms to be ventilated. so...

Minimum room size to require ventilation?

actually this might be in IBC, which defines the square footage per person to determine whether or not it's an occupiable space...

Minimum room size to require ventilation?

I thought that somewhere in IMC there was a minimum room square footage to require the room to be ventilated, is that in the most recent code somewhere? idea is that a small closet does not require ventilaiton, but a larger storage room does. just wondering what that cutoff sf is?

    colors for indoor ductwork?

I have a client asking how to paint indoor ductwork. I feel like internally insulated ductwork could be painted easily enough, but would this change the fire / smoke rating of the duct, would this cause any code issues?

do warehouses automatically required elevator pressurization?

Basically, title. IBC states this is required only for high-rise buildings, or when the structure extends 30' below grade. i have a single story warehouse, wondering if i'm missing anything here?

    2018 IMC warehouse ventilation rates

For the IMC 2018 warehouse ventilation rates, they specity 0.06 cfm/sf, which has been the standard. but now they've added a 10 cfm/person requirement, which is new, but the occupant density column is blank. so how do i establish a minimum ventilation rate?

Required air change rates for propane forklifts in warehouse?

related, has anyone had to deal with a warehouse where idling cars are inside the space? i assume it's then a parking garage at 0.75 cfm/sf...

Required air change rates for propane forklifts in warehouse?

Is there a code requirement in IMC for using propane forklifts in warehouses as opposed to lithium-ion battery forklifts?

Hydrogen detection in a room with UPS systems?

In IFC, I'm trying to understand whether or not I need a hydrogen detection system in a room with a UPS. By reading the IFC code, any "battery room" requires H2 detection if constant exhaust is not applied to the room. However doesn't this depend on the size of the battery or UPS inside the...

Explosion proof actuator enclosures for hydrogen dispensers?

I found it. It's NEC article 500, of all places. And you're correct, it's not just explosion proof actuators etc, it's a hazard class with all sorts of requirements.

Explosion proof actuator enclosures for hydrogen dispensers?

I have louvers that are within 50' of a hydrogen dispenser in a large warehouse. I think their actuators have to be inside explosion proof enclosures if it's within 25' but I can't remember where I read this in the code, it does not seem to be in IMC 2018... does anyone know where else this...

PVC piping in a plenum return application?

I have some lab spaces using plenum style return systems, does this mean I need to fire wrap any existing PVC piping above the ceiling in those areas? I don't see anything in IMC that stipulates this.

Drip pans for hydronic piping in electrical room?

I was looking in IMC, are there any code requirements for drip pans under hydronic piping in an electrical room? The only time I've seen it was as good practice, not a specific code requirement.

    High-Rise Communicating Stair

Interesting. So a communicating stair that is not intended to be of use for egress, still has to comply with this section? It surprises me that this isn't handled similarly to an escalator opening.

    High-Rise Communicating Stair

HVAC designer here, I'm working on a job with an existing high rise tower with a communicating stair connecting 2 floors. The architect wants to cut another hole in the ceiling to have this stair connect 3 floors. I'm trying to figure out any mechanical implications of them doing so; is there a...
