    Thanks for the replies everyone. The soil appears to be fairly low in clay content; via the USDA web soil survey it's classified as Galway loam. The water source is runoff from a rooftop where several surfaces flow into a valley...the flow rate can be 5-15 gallons per minute in heavy storms...
