    MC cable question

Mc enters panels all day long in many places. Think of a panel with nm cable entering it... MC is certainly safer so it is not an issue.

    Exterior Electrical Light Fixtures

I also did a job where I replace 400 watt metal halide fixtures with 64 watt LED units. The light was perhaps a bit more directed but that was 2 years ago, but it had the equivalent amount of light

    Exterior Electrical Light Fixtures

I agree with Chris. I have 8 recessed cans in my kitchen. I had 75 watt R30 incandescent floods in there so I changed them to 10.5 watt LED. Not only are the LED's a lot brighter the difference in wattage is substantial-- 75 x 8 = 600 watts..... 10.5 watts x 8 = 84 watts.

    Solar ready panel.

So if your buss is rated 225 then you can go 120% more which means 270 amps. If the breaker at the top is 125 that means my incoming solar overcurrent protective device can be as high as 270-125 = 145amps I think that is the reason that they went with a larger bus and a smaller main. This is...

3rd party certifications of plug in equipment

If a water heater is plugged in then you should probably turn it down . I have never seen an electric water heater that came with cord and plug and it would not be compliant to use one unless it was listed for the appliance.. There is also this in article 422 I would also bet the installation...

NEC 2014 210.17. Please help me interpret this code.

I understand what the op was about but I think Chris was saying that 210.52(G) was required for a charging station. There is no code requiring wiring to be installed for a charger that is not there. If one is installed it must be on a separate circuit however I have never even seen a 120V...

NEC 2014 210.17. Please help me interpret this code.

210.52(G)(1) says nothing about a charging station. If the entire garage can be on one circuit I doubt that was the intent either.

    Electric Hot water heaters/Disconnect

Almost all motors need a disconnect unless less than 1/8 hp. Electric water heaters need a disconnect at the water heater or shall have a lock on the circuit breaker. Personally I think the lock at the overcurrent protective device will never get used in a residence. We always have the...

    Closet electrical outlet

I have to disagree with some of the above. If an inspector is trying to enforce something that is not code then I think it is worth talking about. I am not in the habit of doing what the inspector wants simply because he doesn't like it. Show it to me in black and white or I will go over...

    Closet electrical outlet

This story makes me sick. She gets robbed of $1 million in handbags and jewelry in a 3 story closet that is 3,000 sq. ft. 3 handbags worth $60,000 each-- makes me sick http://www.people.com/article/1-million-stolen-theresa-roemer-closet

    Closet electrical outlet

I am not sure why anyone would install a receptacle on a switch in a closet. I know of nothing in the nec that would disallow it. I think an authority having jurisdiction would have some issue with a receptacle that was switched at the ceiling in lieu of a light.

    NM cable exposed

IMO, it may be run exposed but it must follow the construction but it must be a building that is associated with a dwelling and not a commercial building- 334.10 The protection from damage is always an authority having jurisdiction call. In general if you follow the framing they usually allow...

    washer and dryer closet shelf

That is what I would have done anyway-- either fluorescent or LED. I still think if there is a w/d in there then it is not a clothes closet but so be it.

    washer and dryer closet shelf

There is a difference between a closet and a clothes closet. IMO, this is not a clothes closet but a laundry room. Does this mean every room with a shelf is a closet? I don't think so.

    ground rod & more

The inspectors in this area do not believe the disconnect for the a/c needs the typical clearance . Generally a disconnect without fuses does not need general maintenance. As long as you can get to it to disconnect the unit it should be okay

    ground rod & more

That doesn't look like a wp time clock to me.

GEC - would you consider this subject to physical damage?

I understand that but it must be in a footing or foundation not in a slab that may be in the middle of the building.

GEC - would you consider this subject to physical damage?

You cannot just embed the grounding electrode conductor in concrete to get a ufer. It needs to be in the footing or foundation. 250.52(A)

    Breaker size for 6 awg

It would depend on the temp rating of the all pieces of equipment including conductors on the circuit. For instance if the wire is NM cable then the max your ocpd can be would be based on the 60C column. If you are run in conduit then you limitation would be 75C . The 90C of the wire is only...

    Metallic conduit elbows?

I don't expect the inspector or the ec to know the entire code and even trying to look it up is difficult. My point is that the use of 90.4 or 110.2 should rarely be used and definitely bot in this case. IMO., those articles are about equipment and conductors that may be questionable. It is...

There would be if I worked for Mike. I cant even get my pic on the mod page because I was never a chief mod--

    Metallic conduit elbows?

Okay, but I would not be the one who would do that based on my feelings and not code info.
  25. Dennis

    Metallic conduit elbows?

Let it go. You really cannot enforce it. If an inspector tried to turn that down on me I would go to the state and get their ruling and the insp. would lose. The only purpose the red tag would have is to hold up the job. I have never been aware of a code cycle that required this. There is a...
