    building dept software

Look at Microsoft Access, you can setup different levels of users, share the back end tables and have customized front ends. I set it up here for our department running about 1600 building permits per year, plus tracking complaints, annual inspections etc. The sky is the limit as to what you can...

Does your jurisdiciton require approved plans on site?

We require one paper set and one electronic set of all plans. We return the paper set stamped "Post on Site". No post on site plans, no inspections.

    building dept software

MPTS is an Microsoft Access based package that was originally built by the town of Grafton MA under a grant, the state will allow any municipality that wants it to download it for free. When I got my hands on it, I found it to be very basic but functional as a way to track permits. What we did...

    building dept software

We had GEOtms for just under 3 years and got rid of that last year. Purchased Access 2013 for all machines in the office and took the MPTS package from the state as a base package, and completely modified it, wrote lots of new code and built a software package that works the way we work...no...

Question for an ICC board member.

your license permits you to work on, not design, buildings under 35,000cubic feet and residential one or two family dwellings, without the oversight of an RDP(Construction Control). It does not give you license to perform design and engineering work on any level. The IBC as amended by the MA...

Manufacturer references it as well as the state, according to FD.

hood required for wood fired pizza oven

Fire department telling me no suppression and no hood per NFPA 96. Combine that with engineer stamped plan calling for no hood and direct vent, I think that's where we are going.

hood required for wood fired pizza oven

plan shows an 8" double wall out the top of the unit. It seems to contradict the plate affixed to the unit stating that the equipment shall be equiped with an exhaust hood . Maybe the 8" is enough?

hood required for wood fired pizza oven

thought is was odd that the affixed plate states that the unit requires a hood.

hood required for wood fired pizza oven

I just got a plan, stamped by an engineer, for a site built, UL listed, wood fired pizza ovem with nothing more than double wall 8" pipe coming out the top and no hood. the Serno Plate for the unit specifically states that the cooking equuipment is to be provided with an exhaust hood. The plans...

    Commerical Ceramics Kiln Install

Installation per manufacturer. Unlisted appliance should be sealed by a RDP. Don't forget ventilation. Glazes and some clay bases contain noxious stuff. Is it electic or gas? If they plan to get crazy with raku and or reduction firings you'll be dealing with combustibles tossed into the kiln...

    Guardian solutions fire suppression?

I think that's the web designers name...honestly, I've been looking for a residential system for my next kitchen upgrade, and this has me thinking now. If listed/approved, I'd definitely approve it for certain applications that did not required a type I hood.

SI reports: How long do you keep?

We started filing electronically on Jan 1st. Rather than using a proprietary package we simple have a dedicated drive on the server that contactins folder for each parcel. We simply scan and save those documents to their proper location. Project folders also get created to sort them easier. We...

    concrete driveways and arrogance

No "post on site" plans, no inspection...I'm not going to inspect something if I don't know that it's what was even approved.

    mixed use or what?

Well when I walked in the manager immediately presented documentation showing a B and F2. The cafe is now a break room. All "clients" / "Trainees" are actually paid and considered employees. They had machinery in the original facility, this setup MAY not include it. I have requested a full...

    mixed use or what?

I don't think we have a custodial care situation in this case, it's more the the manufacturing, cafe, retail stuff that seems odd...site visit tomorrow, we'll see.

    mixed use or what?

I have a project that involves the complete renovation of the first floor (13,100sf) of a 2 story building that is to be used for the supervision and training of mentally challenged individuals and "clients". Part of it (2100 sf) is shown as manufacturing space. This area includes a room where...

Jack studs continuous from header to sole plate?

Thank you, it appears this is more of something that was "preferred" in another municipality and not actually a code requirement.

Jack studs continuous from header to sole plate?

I thought it was in the code somewhere, IRC 2009...jacks to be continuous from header to plate? I have a job where all of the jacks are broken to support the sills.

    Fees For Solar Installations

Based on total job cost. Permit fee is $10 per $1,000 of value. I've issued permits for 6 of these residential systems in just the last 2 weeks. Always get engineering report for existing structure and stamped plans for any structure modifications required.

    Not per reviewed drawings

if any job is this far off the mark in terms of not being even close to the plans then yes, a simple statement "System not installed per approved plans, correct all deviations and call when ready for reinspection." I also advise people to consult with the RDP when in doubt.

    workmanship?

We have it in our amended ch1 of the IRC. Have never used it, normally it's so bad it's also a violation of some other section anyway.

    Bedrooms with no windows

the 2009 irc included sprinklers in single family homes, other areas of protection were reduced and/or proposed amendments for protection were not included as a result of this assumed life safety requirement , yet through all of that, the requirement for windows that meet the emergency rescue...
