    Spray Foam Insulation

David, they should supply you with an ESR report. That report should spell out the the requirement of what would be allowed in the crawlspace. Most would be required to be covered by a thermal barrier.

    Unvented Crawl Space

    Sorry ESR 1826 4.4.2 #3 doesn't allow it.

    Unvented Crawl Space

Francis, again I agree but 4.4.2 # 6 requires foundation vents per 408.1. So move on to enclosed crawlspace 408.3( I think) requires a air pathway to the common area that ESR 1826 #3 doesn't allow. The gentleman I spoke with at ICC said there was a problem with this conflict and he said it was on...

Yes, that is what the fiberglass guys do. They use a rigid fiberboard insulation (r5).

    Unvented Crawl Space

I spoke with an engineer with ICC today and he said that crawl space must be vented by foundation vents or by circulating air from the unit in the house (unvented crawlspace). While a dehumidifier was allowed in the crawlspace in no way would it be considered ventilation. So the ESR report...

    Unvented Crawl Space

Francis, you correct its the pathway to the common area in the unvented crawlspace that's got me curios how you do that when the ESR report says you cant communicate with the other areas. I will call ICC tomorrow to get some clarification. Thanks for your help.

    Unvented Crawl Space

Thanks for the replies, It is a new house with spray foam on the foundation walls. The ESR(1826) requires foundation vents per 408.1 (2012). If you put in foundation vents it would no longer be a conditioned space so you would need to insulate the floor joist. So then on to enclosed crawlspace...

    Slab reinforcement

506.2.1 requires fill to be approved when more than 24in.Seems like I remember an exception a few codes back that allowed for no.4 rebar 24" on center each way instead of compaction? Maybe my old timers kicking in! Does anyone else rember that exception ?

    Foam Insulation?

Tony, believe me I understand sometimes an inspector has to has to trust a contractor. But I will never be part of a contractors team.As an inspector my job is to protect the public,as a builder your job is to make money,a lot of times the two don't mix.

Steve,No I don't see every nail in a shingle.I do hope you can see the difference between a shingle missing a nail and a product that can cause the loss of a life. You may be an expert on foam insulation, but I am not and I tend not to take a contractors word on a product that could be a life...
