    Lavatories in adjacent locker room?

Good news, the RDP opted to move the lavatories into the bathrooms. GPE.

Can't do it, Public High School. GPE.

    Lavatories in adjacent locker room?

Yes, north star, different room numbers and room names. Room finishes are about the same. I don't want to split hairs but, I can't ignore the code section. I have not made a final decision yet. GPE

    Lavatories in adjacent locker room?

Well, it's not just the labels or the lack of doors. Each room has a different function. The lavatories are a part of the sanitary facilities and the locker room is for getting dressed. (Also for snapping towels at each other, it is a high school, after all.) Thanks, Bill1952. I hope to get...

    Lavatories in adjacent locker room?

Hello all, been awhile. Section 405.3.2 of the 2018 IPC requires that the lavatories be located in the same room as the water closets. I'm reviewing a plan for a gymnasium where they are located in the adjacent locker room. No door between the toilet/shower area but, clearly designated as...

small house footings-no interior bearing walls

Thanks, north star but, say I had a 22' wide house with no interior footings. Rafters and joists sized to span the entire width. The tributary load on the outside wall footings would be based on 11' of that span. If I had a 32' wide house with an interior bearing wall, the tributary span would...

small house footings-no interior bearing walls

Footnote b to 2018 IRC Tables R403.1(1), (2) & (3) seems to require an interior bearing wall. What if the project does not require an interior bearing wall? How would one size the footings? On a side note, why do the figures at the bottom of the pages for a slab on grade not show a footing under...

    Adding Onto Recently Completed Building

We recently went from the 2012 to the 2018 IBC but retained the 2012 Chapter 34 by Georgia State Amendment. GPE

    New Georgia Codes

Our County Fire Marshal's office reviews the plans before they are even sent our way. On some projects it requires the State Fire Marshal's office. They also inspect projects in conjunction with our inspectors. It gets weird at times but, mostly works. GPE

    New Georgia Codes

You are correct, Lori, in that the LSC takes precedence in the state of Georgia, as far as egress is concerned. In the Code Reference Guide on page 3 of the 2020 Georgia State Amendments to the 2018 IBC, you will see that the LSC is primary for the means of egress and the supplementary code is...

    R-2 Elevator Requirement

I think that, per 1104.4 (2018 IBC) since the 2nd story is less than 3,000 sq. ft., an elevator would not be required, even though the building exceeds 3,000 sq. ft. GPE

Is it a building or not?

BTW, I was being facetious. I agree with JCraver, this is ridiculous. You just can't regulate everything. GPE

Is it a building or not?

I guess you are right. "best practice" would be to require a fence. GPE

Is it a building or not?

No worries, unless you are the one(s) paying for the fence. GPE

Are FHA and ADA resident parking requirements cumulative, or concurrent?

If the IBC requires a guard on a roof with equipment within 10' of the edge and the IMC requires a guard on a roof with equipment within 10' of the edge, do I need to install 2 guards? No, the one guard satisfies both code requirements. IMHO, the one parking space satisfies the requirement for...

    Is a catwalk a "floor"?

Section 3002.4 of the 2012 IBC requires at least one elevator car to accommodate an ambulance stretcher where the building has 4 or more stories. The car is required to have access to all "floors". I have a project that exceeds 4 stories and has full height catwalk levels between floors. The...

mezzanine in a type 1-A building

How about this - Table 601 requires 2-hour protection for floors. By definition, a mezzanine is not a floor, but an intermediate level between a floor and the structure above. Ron, would it make a difference if the mezzanine were not connected to the buildings primary structural frame? GPE

That makes sense to me. Still, it is a floor and Table 601 seems to indicate a rating requirement... GPE
