    Static Dissipative Flooring in Hangars

I am finalizing a building code upgrade design for an existing hangar. there are areas of class 1 div 2 requirements in the hangar. What i don't see is any requirements on the flooring to be SD or Electrostatic Discharge. because of the potential for fumes, and the requirement of class 1 div 2...

    acoustic door jambs

Ok, so this is not a code related question, its more of a detail question, but i wasn't sure the best place to post. Here it goes. Looking to specify some acoustical doors for a client who requested them. looks like getting the door/frame specified is pretty easy. How do i handle the the...

thermal upgrades within a change of use

It appears as though the requirement to increase the thermal envelope requirements within a change of use has been removed. I am surprised to see this. An old inefficient factory space within a building that is converted to new office space seems like it should require the insulation systems be...

suitably cut off or effectively cut off for classified spaces.

Found this through a contact from NFPA, seemed helpful if anyone is looking. https://www.roxtec.com/globalassets/03.-files/whitepapers/pcic-specific/pcic-paper-vapor-tight-barriers.pdf

Any thoughts area always appreciated. Sometimes its someone else's interpretation that helps come to a good conclusion. I am lining up a meeting with them as we speak.

suitably cut off or effectively cut off for classified spaces.

Thanks Steveray, Most of the separation is existing masonry. It is the area that I'm screwing around with and providing a new door/small amount of sheetrock wall that I'm thinking about. just blows my mind that i can't find anything that says a little more than what exists for something that...

suitably cut off or effectively cut off for classified spaces.

Ice, Thank you for that clarification. Where is it that you find the difference between effectively cut off having no doors, and suitably cut off having doors with ventilation changes? I am also trying to find where to find a clarification on what the wall construction needs to be. Aside from...

Suitably Cutoff - Effectively cut off

Its not in the glossary. Interesting enough the idea of A.I. was brought up, so I used it to try and find a solution. After multiple conversations with A.I. i am fairly confident the definition does not exist. NFPA interpretations are limited to yes and no answers. so I think the next steps are...

suitably cut off or effectively cut off for classified spaces.

This one must have people stumped. Not even a sarcastic reply! I searched NFPA for the term suitably cut off and effectively cut off and it comes up for repair garages also. But still can't seem to get a definition to save my life. Thank you,

suitably cut off or effectively cut off for classified spaces.

I am trying to design a solution to the effectively cut off requirement for the separation and door ways between an existing hangar and existing adjacent space. You can find it in the NEC 70 section 513.3. I can not find where the term effectively cut off is defined so i know how to achieve...

Suitably Cutoff - Effectively cut off

The UFC says "suitably cutoff" is defined in NFPA but i can not find that to save my life. Is it simply some walls and doors. does it require sealing at the floor and around the door leaf? etc etc. could be simple, could need more detailing.

Suitably Cutoff - Effectively cut off

I found it in a couple locations. UFC 4-211-01 Dept of Def aircraft maintenance hangars as well as NEC NFPA 70 section 513.3 B and D.

Class 1 Div 1 Zone protection

I am trying to dig into the potential rated wall separation for a class 1 div 1 or class 1 div 2 space from other areas. while i assume a rated separation is required, i can not seem to find it in the code. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

    NFPA MAQ's and Diluted materials

The final product will not contain an SDS on the compounded solution/product. If a client purchase a powder in bulk, and then mixes on site as part of a proprietary process they will not have an SDS on that compound nor will they have done the testing for lethal dose limits, etc etc etc.

    NFPA MAQ's and Diluted materials

Doing some digging into NFPA and MAQ's for products and the client brought up a question. how are diluted materials handled. In many facilities products exist in raw form, but also in diluted form once it becomes part of process systems. Extreme example, something potentially flammable, when...

    Code Expert

Currently right now we are looking for more of an on call type scenario. while I would expect most of the task to be plan review, I can't completely discount the potential for an on site visit. There is no specific project, no specific issue, but as part of an overall encompassing 3 year master...

    Code Expert

Looking for a reference for a "code expert" for work in the new England area. Preferable someone or a group that can cover Mass and NH. most of the work will be in NH but small amounts will filter out into other states. Can anyone recommend anyone specific or a firm for this service. This is for...

    Historic Repair - Design

I have my structural engineer lined up to go review existing conditions with me. the question came up about changing the non visible structural items. will we be forced to replace in kind even though you cant see it, or can we change the non-visible structure to better meet todays design loads...

    Historic Repair - Design

That could be, he was basically saying there are two levels and this is the more "historic" which allows them to just replace in kind and not upgrade to current. but i don't see anything in the code on levels.
