Have a B-occupancy with an F2-occupancy in a split level set-up. The B and the F2 requires a 2-hr wall which is a required separation according to the table. The F2 has two stories and the B has one story. The B occupancy roof is tied into the side wall of the F2 at the second story half way up the exterior wall.

My question is can the 2-hr wall stop at the second story ceiling level of the F2 and not proceed to the underside of the F2 roof? This area is the gable end with no B-occupancy to protect.

Hope I made this clear enough?

The separation is only required if the separated occupancies method is used. Have you considered the nonseparated occupancies method?

If separated occupancies is required, then the separation only needs to separate the areas of the wall that the two occupancies share in common. Continuing up the wall to the roof would only separate the Group F-2 from the exterior. Section 707.4 (2015 edition) states that exterior walls serving as a part of a separation need only comply with the requirements of Section 705 for exterior walls and the separation requirements need not apply.
