From the 2010 ADA SAD, ...is Table 208.2 the minimun number of spaces

that are required for each parking facility?....When does the requirement

for Van Accessible spaces come into play [ RE: Chapter 5 ] .

Thanks!

Van Accessible = min. of 1, ..."P L U S" 1 vehicle space = 2 min.,

or min. of Van = 1 only ?

I am looking at Section 208.2.4 and having trouble deciphering...

Thanks!!

Our zoning sets the minimum parking required per occupancy. I would imagine, in order to meet both the zoning and 2010 ADA SAD requirements, a minimum of two stalls would need to be provided given that parking in the designated accessible stall is prohibited to some users. One accessible van stall with access aisle and one general parking stall.

Papio,

Our Zoning & city ordinances are not so clear!

In strictly looking just at 2010 ADA SAD, what

[ in your opinion ] is the minimum number of

vehicle and van accessible spaces ?

Coug Dad,

Van Accessible as in the minimum number required.

If I have a minimum number of 1 parking spaces

on a site [ as required by Table 208.2 ], ...are

2 spaces required, or just the Van Accessible one

[ along with the access aisle ] ?

Just the van is required

208.2.4 requires a van space for every 6 spaces or fraction of six spaces

1st space van

7th space van

13 space van and so on and so on

After reading & re-reading the 2010 ADA SAD and a

1998 ADAAG Manual, ...I am of the opinion that; as

mtlogcabin has stated, that the 1st one is to be a Van

Accessible type, ...then, the 7th one, ...13th and so on,

but all have the associated compliant dimensioned

access aisles with them.

Thank you all for your input!

Don't forget they used to be one space for every 8 and that's still allowable until they do work on the parking lot.

In my opinion, if your zoning requires one stall then you provide two. One van accessible stall to meet the 2010 ADA SAD requirement and one for everyone else who does have a license to park in an accessible stall to park at. If you just provide the van accessible stall, where do I park if I don't have an accessible parking tag?

If you are required to provide two stalls, then you would have them.

Strictly concerning ADA SAD, if there is only one stall, then it is van accessible. I do understand where mt and everyone else is coming from, I just don't agree if your zoning requires 1 stall for everybody, when there really isn't such a parking stall.

In a regular stall like everyone else

Now if you have a tag and another person with a tag is using the spot oh well A handicap parking sticker/tag does not quaranttee it is available when you need one.

Our zoning does not "require" accessible parking spaces. It says you shall comply with current ADA regs

As a reminder beyond the scope of 1106 and authority of (ADA) DOJ unless it can be proven a civil rights violation; under the Fair Housing Act “If buyers or renters request an accessible space at the time of the first sale or rental, it may be necessary to provide additional accessible parking spaces if the two percent are already reserved. These spaces must be offered on the same terms and with the full range of choices offered to others.

If additional spaces are needed as a reasonable accommodation to a person with a disability after the buildings are constructed, additional accessible parking spaces may be required.”

my point is, there is not a regular stall to park in because it is not provided. The regular stall isn't required if your zoning does not address it. If all you provide is a van accessible stall, then only persons with tags will have a parking stall.

If your zoning says it shall comply with the current ADA then it says by default that an accessible parking stall is required in order to meet the ADA.

I understand the SOL concept with the accessible stalls.

I have a hard time understanding why only one stall is required, but oh well.

The ADA does not require a regular handicap parking stall in addition to the 1st van accessible required stall

208.2.4 Van Parking Spaces. For every six or fraction of six parking spaces required by 208.2 to comply with 502, at least one shall be a van parking space complying with 502.

How many parking spaces are you required to have for the site. One seems kind of low for any building other than maybe residential.

What the ADA parking table is showing you is you have to have one accessible space for up to 25 parking spaces including the accessible stall. Assuming you are between 1 to 25 spaces. That one accessible space has to be designated van accessible.

If and when the number of accessible stalls is greater than 6 then you will have to have another designated van accessible stall. More than six accessible stalls kicks in when the total parking stalls exceed 200. Remember you count the accessible stalls in the total required parking stalls. EX: 201 to 300 stalls require seven of those stalls to be accessible and two of the seven must be van accessible.
