A question came up in house. A 27,000 sq ft V-B building requires 4500 GPM fire flow for 4 hours.
Table B105.2 permits a 75% reduction in the required fire flow in a sprinkled building which would be 1,125 GPM
Now go to Appendix C for fire hydrants. Do you use the original 4500 GPM or the reduced number of 1,125GPM
The big difference if 5 required hydrants or 1. With 1 hydrant you will be dragging a lot of hose
We have never done it that way but the question came up as to why not?
