The City of Santa Clarita’s Building and Safety Division will host a series of free workshops for architects, engineers, designers, contractors and developers to review the key changes made to the California Building Codes and local amendments. Attendees will gain an understanding of how the 2013 building codes will affect the design and construction of both residential and non-residential new buildings, additions, alterations and tenant improvements.

Each of the following four workshops will be open to the public and held at City Hall in the first floor Century Room from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.:

Workshop #1: Residential – Hosted on Thursday, February 6, this workshop will focus on the basic science of wood frame construction and how typical wood frame structures should be designed and built in compliance with the 2013 Building Code.

Workshop #2: Residential – Hosted on Thursday, February 13, this workshop will review the code changes as well as other existing basic, non-structural code provisions related to residential construction, remodels or new homes. This workshop will also highlight architectural, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, energy and CalGreen code requirements.

Workshop #3: Non-Residential – Hosted on Thursday, February 20, the workshop will focus on the basic code requirements for a typical tenant improvement. This workshop will also highlight architectural, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, energy and CalGreen code requirements.

Workshop #4: Non-Residential – Hosted on Thursday, March, 6, this workshop will focus on the basic code requirements for new, non-residential buildings and how these code changes will affect new non-residential buildings or structures.
