We have some facilities with Commercial Generators.

We want to have some Load Tests performed on them to ensure
that they will actually start and carry the intended electrical loads.

What all should we be expecting for a complete and thorough
Load Test [ i.e. - length of time, ...ensuring all components all
are functioning from the generator to the actual bldg. electrical
systems, ...any applicable warranty of the Load Test, other ] ?

Thank you for your input !

You might contact a test company, and get a cheat sheet from them. On what they do.

So Rembo, ...some experienced electricians in this area, that
are familiar with a Generator Load Test, are saying that it
should not take more than 30 - 45. mins. tops !

Do you have some type of list for me to reference, or does
NFPA 110 have everything that I would need to show to
one of our Service Contractors ?

Thanks !

FWIW, ...we have Gennies from 125kw up to 800kw.

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) prescribes when an EPSS is to be operated under sufficient loads, or through the use of a load bank, in its publication NFPA 110-Standard for Emergency and Standby Power Systems, 2005 Edition. After the load bank is attached to the generator, the generator must be run at 25% of nameplate rating for 30 minutes, followed by 50% of nameplate rating for 30 minutes, followed by 75% of nameplate rating for 60 minutes, for a total of 2 continuous hours. Exercising the equipment according to this schedule will simultaneously test the operating efficiency of the system and burn off any fuel that may have accumulated in the exhaust over the course of normal operating conditions.

Call the generator GUY, not one that normally tests around you and ask...
