Dock on a government building not over 30" off grade. A precast set of stairs was set adjacent to the dock and a handrail at 36" was installed on the outside edge with no guard protection. Does this meet code?

Is a dock considered to be a platform? Can't fine much info on a loading dock, a code section would help!

Thanks gb,

1013.1, the railing that is there is not required by code therefore not needing any additional guards. Exception 1 is the only place the word DOCK appears.

Less than 30", a guard is not required, but a code compliant handrail is required for the stair.
