Foundation question, from the permit expiditers

I just had to share this one with everyone. We had previous fourm discussions about permit expiditers, the roles they play, etc..

In our jurisdiction, we (building and landuse) take a quick look at things as they are submitted and let the applicant know if there are any large or obivious items missing.

Here is an email thread between myself and a permitting service company. It took me a while to figure out a response that didn't come across poorly.

Certain information has been withheld to protect the innocent and the stupid.

ME:

XXXXX, I am doing intake reviews looking for major items missing, so they can be addressed by the applicant while the plans are in line waiting a full review.

The XXXXXX truck shed, as submitted, lacks a foundation plan. One will need to be provided and designed by an engineer. They should reference the documents provided by the building designer that provides all of the net reactions necessary to design for.

Sincerely,

John XXXXX

Deputy Building Official-

Plans Examiner

XXXXXX County

THE REPLY:

Is a foundation required? The structure they built on XXXXX had a gravel floor.

NICE! Sounds about like what we get here......usually takes about 3 tries to get the application and fees right, nevermind code info......

A review of our records did not find a building permit for that project. Please submit an application and engineered drawings since it was constructed on a gravel foundation. :oops

I typed and deleted my reply more times than any other email I have ever sent. It was tempting to tell them what I really thought, but better judgment prevailed.

Had to check just to be sure there wasn't some alternative meaning I wasn't aware of. I suppose that is always the danger of specifically calling yourself something. You are either what you say you are, or you are not. In this case, it sounds like you are dealing with a permit impediter.

Verb

expedite (third-person singular simple present expedites, present participle expediting, simple past and past participle expedited)

(transitive) To accelerate the progress of.

He expedited the search by alphabetizing the papers.

(transitive) To perform (a task) fast and efficiently.

Antonyms

impede

slow down

Amazingly the Ex Ped iters ( no longer with feet) permiting experts

expert - per "Gus" Portokalos

FROM THE GREEK Give me any word

x is the unknown > unknowing < quantity

spurt = a drip under pressure

seem to bring our usually smooth process to a HALT and take up more of our time

than the least clued contractor - them you can educate - them they can read

expediting experts them from other plamit
