Observations on IRC Code Process

This did not get a lot of reads, but this city official made some penetrating observations on the IRC code change process. She is not from the building department and her comments were focused on the conduct at the hearings she attended.

I watched the podcast of that vote and it was the most disgusting thing I ever saw, I lost all respect for the code process, some here like RJJ came back with stories of the hospitality suite where the voters were rewarded with booze and hookers. Several here were served with requests for information but to my knowledge nobody was prosecuted.

At the time I said the most dangerous thing was this was a model of how the process could be corrupted for social engineering codes, and just look at what we have today.

PA did take the requirement for fire sprinklers out of the IRC and added a requirement for drywall on the basement ceiling if the rafters are I-joists or anything less than a 2x10.

Will the expansion of the voting access make that type of thing better or worse? Better because we all have easy access to the vote or worse because the special interests won't be hampered by a budget that can only send a limited number reps to vote?

At least the speaker says they do not know what they are talking about, and it sounds like it

I was also there in MN for this cycle of code hearings. And it was a joke what happened. I didn't get the invite to the hospitality suite though, what's up with that? Yes, the fire folks showed up en mass, and left the same way. But, ICC has put rules in place to try and deter that from happening again. Will the new electronic vote get corrupted? It seemed pretty secure this last time, but anything can happen I guess.
