Shaft continuity

707.5 Continuity. Fire barriers shall extend from the top of the foundation or floor/ceiling assembly below to the underside of the floor or roof sheathing, slab or deck above and shall be securely attached thereto. Such fire barriers shall be continuous through concealed spaces, such as the space above a suspended ceiling.

Shafts are treated as fire barriers.....Are they going to rate the floor? And beams? And columns?

Can a floor assembly of steel c joists with corrugated deck and 5/8" drywall on the bottom side of the steel joist be part of the shaft enclosure?
No reason 1

A shaft connecting 4 stories is required to be 2 hours. 5/8" drywall does not provide the 2 hours

No reason 2

The floor would need to be constructed as a horizontal assembly in accordance with 711

Option

713.8 Penetrations.

Penetrations in a shaft enclosure shall be protected in accordance with Section 714 as required for fire barriers. Structural elements, such as beams or joists, where protected in accordance with Section 714 shall be permitted to penetrate a shaft enclosure.

Penetrate the shaft with the steel C joist and protect the penetrations. Hold the floor and ceiling back from the shaft wall
