There was a time when I was the building dept. I issued the permits, answered the phones, plan checked any residential under 600 sq. ft. and performed all of the inspections.

I remember the day a particularly offensive contractor belittled me without mercy as I issued his permit. When the transaction was complete he asked to schedule an inspection so I filled out the request slip and called for the next customer.

As he was leaving, he turned and asked what time to expect the inspector. I told him I would be there in the morning after 10.

Then he said: "Oh so you're the inspector. Are you going to torture me because of the way I treated you? I replied: " Well no sir! I will be on my best behavior and I promise to give you 100% of my abilities."

Some people are beyond embarrassment.
