UL " the Code authority"

It needs to be recognized that UL is a business that makes money by performing tests and issuing certifications. The last time I checked when the IBC listed an UL test criteria it also listed an alternate independent standard that could be used for compliance. I blieve that this was done so as not to create a monopoly.

One of the biases that UL introduces into their process is that when listing the components of a tested assembly they will require that the other components have a UL listing even when the code says that the component has a rating..

Your specifications should accept products that meet the other criteria listed in the building code.
 
I meant to say "Your jurisdiction should accept products that meet the other criteria listed in the building code."
