Anyone familiar with Menards stores? I am wondering why their stores have neither a vestibule nor an air curtain? The poor girls that work in the one I frequent freeze due to the store facing north!

Don't they have to follow the general building codes that seem to apply in every state to either have a vestibule or an air curtain?

He means which year of the code (it gets updated every three years), and how heavily it is amended by the people who adopt it.

Building codes are written by an organization, such as the International Code Council, and then states adopt the parts they like as law. Some states change many things, some don't change anything. Some states (like Kansas) leave it up to individual cities to adopt the codes, and they also may make local amendments.

Also, states and cities don't always adopt the most current code - the 2021 codes may be out, but many people are still on the 2015 and 2018 editions.

Also, whatever code was adopted in that area when the store was built is the code the store would have had to meet. If the store was built 20 years ago, (for example), then whatever building code was adopted for that area at that time is what applies to that building, not whatever code is adopted now.

My guess is the OP is a cashier in a Menards and is upset that they get cold air in the winter and hot air in the summer, and are looking for a law or code to force the owners to build a vestibule.

No, I'm not an employee, but I see how they suffer and it disturbs me for them.
