The code reads:

(D) Overvoltage Protection.
A listed surge protective device shall be installed between a wind electric system and any loads served by the premises electrical system. The SPD shall be permitted to be a Type 3 SPD on the circuit serving a wind electric system or a Type 2 SPD located anywhere on the load side of the service disconnect. SPDs shall be installed in accordance with Part II of Article 242.

What it means is:
Wind electric systems often feature towers that are among the tallest structures in a given area. To safeguard these systems and the associated premises wiring against lightning, the implementation of surge-protective devices is essential. These devices are discussed in Article 242, which focuses on Overvoltage Protection.

Furthermore, specific grounding requirements for towers and guy wires are detailed in sections 694.40(B)(3) and (B)(4) of the NEC. To ensure comprehensive protection of wind turbines from lightning strikes, it is also advised to refer to Chapter 9 of the NFPA 780, which is the Standard for the Installation of Lightning Protection Systems. These guidelines provide a framework for effectively securing wind electric systems from lightning-related damage.
