Ahhhh the things you notice when you are there for other reasons:

Gutted control box for the fan, NM laying on a hot vent pipe

Then because the vent does not work, all of the gases come out the hood and melt/scorch the plastic bushings of the water connections. Wonder what the CO level was in this basement?

And yes, that is asbestos on top of the water heater falling off the old steam pipes above.
