Power vented water heater, past tense

Ahhhh the things you notice when you are there for other reasons:

Gutted control box for the fan, NM laying on a hot vent pipe

Then because the vent does not work, all of the gases come out the hood and melt/scorch the plastic bushings of the water connections. Wonder what the CO level was in this basement?
