I’m researching fire‑access best practices and I’m hoping you can provide clarity on how remoteness should be measured. I’ve attached a diagram showing potential access points for reference.
  • Point A: entrance to multifamily subdivision from primary road.
  • Point B: entrance to MF subdivision from secondary access road.
  • Point C: entrance for both RS/MF subdivisions.
  • Point D: entrance of secondary access road from main road.
Since A is only accessible by passing through C and an obstruction could block both C and D, would C be the more appropriate point to measure access from to ensure that A accounts for the risk of the area becoming entirely inaccessible? Or should access be measured from A because it’s the entrance into the subdivision? Thanks.

.

This looks like a land use, subdivision questin not a building code question. The difference being the building codes deal with in to out of the building exiting, the land use subdivision question deal with road layout and vehicle access.

Thanks for letting me know. I thought "Fire Codes" would cover all code, not just the building code. My bad.

Fire Code Appendix D might be helpful for you
You would think! Appx D’s D106.3 says “property or area to be served” but its not clear to me if that means just the parcel or includes the off-site improvement?

In what jurisdiction is the project located?
San Diego County
