IPC 607.1 temperature limiting device question

I understand how you are interpreting the "or," but I believe the intent is to require the limiting device. I don't think using the water heater alone is providing the protection intended. especially for a hair sink where someone's head and face are so at risk. If any method is acceptable, then...

    ISA at Entrances

I posted this in another thread, but it was nit the main topic of discussion. I just want to get confirmation in case i am reading this incorrectly. The ISA is no longer req'd at every entry door in all cases. See 11B-216.6. It is now only required if not all entrances are accessible. If the...

Why the Word "Handicapped" Should Be Eliminated From Our Vocabulary

Yep, you were wrong. The ISA is no longer req'd at every entry door in all cases. See 11B-216.6. It is now only required if not all entrances are accessible. If the building has one door that is not accessible, then all doors would need signage, either with ISA, or if not accessible, with...

I wish the ISA could be updated a little, this one is great: http://accesssymbol.com/

    Coal tar pitch roof

I would allow it, but only if the new membrane roofing product manufacturer instructions and ICC-ES evaluation report allows installation over such existing conditions.

    CALGreen Checklist

No, you could just run non–pt studs through a chipper and use for mulch. It just can't go to landfill. But does not need to be reused in the same way as originally purposes.

    Coffee Bar Height for ADA

I agree with Francis' post in most cases, but I believe a coffee station is a little different. One must set down their hot cup of coffee in order to add condiments, replace the lid, etc. There is more too it than just grabbing a napkin, it requires a counter surface that I would require to be...

    Fire-Resistance rated Assemblies for Townhouse

You are talking about the same thing, 13D can be a very simple combination system. NFPA13D manual may be viewed online for free once registered here: http://www.nfpa.org/codes-and-standards/free-access

    Fire-Resistance rated Assemblies for Townhouse

In my opinion it would be better to require fire sprinklers in townhomes and allow the 1 hr common wall. Fire sprinklers save more lives than going to a 2 hr wall would ever be able to. The NFPA 13D systems are not that expensive, why not just adopt it as IRC has written it?

    CBS Signs verses the City

If the signs are there without the permission of the land owner, then the Community Development Director should not be putting you in the middle of this. The answer should be talk to the Director. If I want to add bollards around my cottage that I built in your backyard without your permission...

    Small Restaurant: Single Unisex Restroom?

Occupant Load per Plumbing Code Table A is 25 persons. Lets assume the "Egress" Occupant Load per Ch.10 Table 1004.1.2 is 49 persons.

Use Group Classification. Commercial Powder Coating Operation?

F-1 ? In CA, Section 307.1 Exception 1 says Bldgs for the application of flammable finishes shall not be classified as H, but rather that as the occupancy most clearly resembles, as long as also compliant with Building Code Section 416 Application of Flammable Finishes, and the Fire Code.

    Small Restaurant: Single Unisex Restroom?

Questions, with attempts at answers: 1. Can a small dining use be served by one single accommodation (unisex) restroom? 2. If the total plumbing occupants are 10 or less, then the answer is YES, per CPC 422.2, exception 2. 3. If the total plumbing occupants are 25 persons? Answer appears to...

Firefighters want new codes to protect them from rooftop solar panels

Their website is out of date, which is typical. Every jurisdiction in CA is currently on 2010 CA Building Standards Code. They may have adopted local amendments, but they have no choice in being on the current codes.

Clothes dryer duct - manufacturer instructions vs. code

Are you sure that your premise is correct? That there are no UL 2158A listed semi rigid duct products available? I just did a search and found plenty that claim the listing from various sellers, including major retailers. Is this false advertisement?

    0n 1-1-2014 we adopt the 2011 NEC

Well, CA adopts the 2013 CA Electric Code, based on the 2011 NEC. I would say only if the curcuit in question is being altered would it need to upgraded to Arc Fault device.

    door to nowhere

I would require the architect or engineer to propose a solution in writing, stamped and signed. But might suggest this second gate as a possiblity. I don't think a landing would be necessary. There are some gates here that are getting at it: http://psdoors.com/photo-gallery/safety-fall/

Dispersion of wheelchair locations in church sanctuary

No, it does not sound right. Where does it say you have to be exactly anywhere? 11B-221.2.3 "In providing lines of sight, wheelchair spaces shall be dispersed. Wheelchair spaces shall provide spectators with choices of seating locations and viewing angles that are substantially equivalent to...

Do circuit breakers need to be accessible?

I agree, just curious about installing a panel with the highest breaker at 48" max AFF. That is really low, I bet most electricians would feel very strange with that installation if it was not actually required. Perhaps if just "doing it anyway," which does seem like a good idea, there should...

    Ten years into it

I get complaint-focused enforcement, but it can't be the only method. When we stumble upon a serious life-safety code violation, one has an ethical responsibility to respond. It cannot fall upon the public citizens to be code savvy enough to recognize the violation and report it. I would say...

Do circuit breakers need to be accessible?

No. Not under CBC nor Fair Housing Act. Circuit breakers are not intended to be used as controls for the outlets or lights. They are a safety device within an electrical system, not a "control." I know there are many people saying that electric panels must be mounted at accessible heights...

Enforcement of exterior steps as means of egresso

I didn't even notice the poll at first. My brain automatically assumed it was an advertisement banner. I wonder if they can be made more obvious or actually within the thread... HD's code citations are the enforceable answer.
