    Access to Service Panel

It was discussed at the framing inspection by another inspector. I was not aware of the conversation and the other inspector agreed that access to the panel was approved through the adjacent space. It wasn't ntil the final that I tried to access the panel and the space next door was locked and I...

    ICC Certification Search

Did you get them BEFORE it became ICC? I did a search for mine and the only one that came up was the one I got when I tested when the organization was changed to the ICC. Listings here may not reflect today's changes, additions, exam results, or certifications from organizations other than ICC...

    Condensate

We prefer it to run to the sanitary sewer even though in my opinion the rooftop is allowable as I interpret the code. But I/WE are the AHJ and WE say sanitary sewer.

Jack studs continuous from header to sole plate?

We use a base ten! Whatever the heck that is! It's just the American base ten...... No really, there are too many old timers, like me, that have been so used to our system that it would be total chaos for me to try to change my way of thinking. Okay let's look at it this way... 11% is just a...

Jack studs continuous from header to sole plate?

Just curious on where this information comes from. The sill shrinking 11% seems a bit excessive. Why would the sill shrink so much? I've done a LOT of remodels and have never noticed any shrinkage like that. On a standard 2X4 width that would be 3/8 of an inch. But who am I to question?

    Name that topic

I love the idea of a "Links" page. The only downfall I see is that some posters would start getting off track and you would have to weed through a bunch of BS to get to what you are looking for. I have been guilty of this in the past. Someone posts a link and then it reminds me of something...

Don't want to do this, don't want to do that, don't want to spend money, don't want to.................. Tell them, "Sorry I can't help you! I've given every opinion on what meets code and you don't want to do any of them sooooooo do what you want too!"

Raising the roof to fit insulation

Yep! That's what I was thinking about. I was talking about structures other than accessory buildings though. I don't know of anyone (AHJ) that requires the uncompressed inulation all of the way past the top plate. N1102.2.1 Ceilings with attic spaces. When Section N1102.1 would require R-38 in...

Raising the roof to fit insulation

I know this is a shed but... From memory here... There is a requirement in the IRC that requires the insulation to extend all the way out to the outside of the wall. I'll have to dig it out of course.... but the clearance above the top plate is required which nobody is enforcing from what I can...

    Access to Service Panel

There is only 16" to 24" of space left to the right of the lavatory. To install a door the door would have to swing in and then toy would only have the 16 to 24" space left to access the hallway. Doesn't the electrical room door have to swing outward? What about the clearance to get through the...

    Access to Service Panel

The lease space is going to be an adult day care center. What is even sadder is that a bingo hall is going in adjacent to that (not where the service panel is located though). The bingo hall is opening the adult day care center in conjuction with the bingo hall. Don't let your disabled Mom or...

    Access to Service Panel

Was at a certificate of occupancy this morning. Checking things out I walked into the restroom and a 4X4 foot section of drywall was missing on both sides of the lease spaces. Asked the general contractor why that was left off. He never really gave me an answer. He just stated we'll get that...

    Don't blame the plumber

I don't know if you were making a funny or not but some inspectors may not be aware of this requirement... so just in case... The gaurds shall be 2" above the bottom plate, total of 3 1/2" of metal and 2" below the top plate, total of 5" of metal protecting the pipe. This is in both the...

    Huge disconnect

I was looking for a GIGANTIC disconnect also! :) However... I am glad that there are those of you architects and DP that know and follow the code. And I am also sorry that there are BO's and plan reviewers that don't have a clue. I know from recent experience that I asked for something on a...

    A Touching Christmas Story
