    BUILDING CODE/EGRESS LAWS QUESTION

No, not acceptable to the IRC. You must meet the requirements of section 311, including a landing at the top.

Single Motor Tap Calculation per the NEC

2020 NEC: Per 430.28 exception: feeder taps under that condition will be at 125% of FLC found in table 430.250 (68 amps x 125% = 85 amps.) Conductor size will be #4 copper THW at 75 degrees Celsius.

    Fernco for sanitary

The steel-banded Ferncos are acceptable for the application.

    Electrical service required?

Take out a permit to repair the structure. Don't mention the lack of electric service and don't propose making the cabin any larger. Keep it simple. The Berkshire Mountains are a beautiful place and you will likely be dealing with an inspector that has a common-sense view of the matter. Just...

Residential solar permit valuation or fee?

We use whatever they say the cost will be, but with a minimum of $2.55/watt.

    Townhome Parapet requirement?

2015 IRC 302.2.2 requires parapets, then there is an exception for fire-retardant sheathing 4 feet each side or 5/8 type X. The word "shall" be constructed tells you that they are required unless you can apply the exception.

    Radon pipe?

Steveray: I often see sdr35 sticking up from the slab, and then I allow them to do a Fernco connection to ABS or sch40 PVC. The excuse always seems to be that nobody has sch40 onsite when the slab is being poured, but most excavators have sdr35 scraps kicking around, left over from footing...

    Low cost basic permitting software?

We use PermitLink and it is fairly popular online option in this area. It would do everything you are asking. Their customer service is very good and for small municipalities, they have an option that I think is still $10/permit. Here is the link: https://www.permitlinkusa.com/

    Unheated Porch Ceiling Insulation?

What I mean to say, is if there is outside air in the attic already, what difference does it make if you add more outside air.

    Unheated Porch Ceiling Insulation?

Is the attic space between the top of the existing ceiling insulation and the bottom of the roof not vented already? if so, I can't see where the issue would be. A vertical barrier to cover the sides of the insulation from wind washing would be required, but not to insulate the porch roof.

    ADU septic question

In Connecticut, so long as the existing septic is not failing AND there exists a code-complying area on the lot to construct the right size septic, should the existing one fail, it is permissible to add a bedroom. The Board of Health conducts a review that may or may not involve soil testing to...

    Utility size Groundmount PV pricing?

I'm seeing most residential size permits coming in at about $2.39/watt. Of course there is economy with larger scale projects.

    Compliant Riser Diagram

We used to bond at the meter can up until probably around 1996, or so. Although my memory may be a bit fuzzy on the exact year.

    Compliant Riser Diagram

In CT, at least, Eversource will not allow the equipment ground to be in or through the meter can. The equipment ground should be on the neutral bar, at the first means of disconnect.

    No More Sharpies NEC 408.4

not handwritten........As long as it is legible, I have better things to enforce.

    Controlling Rafter Thrust

I once nailed 18 to 24-inch rips of 3/4 Advantech to the bottom of the ceiling joists to span under the beam, then furred out the rest of the ceiling to match. It worked fine. I have also used and inspected Simpson metal strapping over the top of the beam.

    CSST gas line bonding?

    Yes, either way is acceptable.

    Woodstove installed in sunroom

A woodstove is not thermostatically-controlled. I wouldn't bother with it. Take a permit to install a woodstove as supplemetal heat and move on to bigger fish.

    water inlet above outlet

You could screw brass hose caps over the valve, if it makes you feel better.

An Unvented Attic is The Best Option

I like foam also, but agree that it makes everything more difficult if plywood roof sheathing needs to be changed out in the future. How about a system where plywood is attached to the underneath of the rafters and then that is sprayed with foam. The space on the back side of the plywood...

    Junction Box for small Range

Did you change the question? I would have sworn that the original question asked about the size of the junction box required to extend the circuit a short distance. If i read it wrong (maybe, LOL) then yes, a deeper box is required. Would a raised cover or plaster ring suffice, hmmmm...

Replacing Ungrounded Receptacles with Grounded Receptacles

Connecticut amends 2017 NEC 406.4 (D)(4) to exempt receptacle replacements in one and two-family and 2015 IRC 3902.17 to exempt receptacle replacements. Either way, not required to add AFCI when replacing a device in a one and two family.

Required Bathroom Receptacles in Dwelling Units

Yes, code-compliant. Bad idea though. A hair dryer probably draws about 1000 watts (8.3 amps). Two bathrooms with two teenage girls could easily mean two blowdryers plus a curling iron or two running at the same time. Permissible, but bad practice, in my opinion.
  24. F

    Junction Box for small Range

Yes, if there is external cable clamps, No if there are internal clamps. 2017 NEC table 314.16 (A) allows 7- #8 conductors. Red, white and black coming in; red, white and black going out; plus one total for the equipment grounds. Total of 7 - #8 conductors allowed in the 21 cubic inch metal box.

    Failure to complete construction

Jcraver: If your code uses the "commenced within 180 after issuance" language, you are wrong to assume the permit needs an extension within 180 days of you signing the permit. Commence means to start, it has nothing to do with finishing the project.
