1% for art

Hey, if you make the water sculpture mobile, maybe the remaining firefighters can use it for firefighting! Sounds like a win-win for everyone!

:-D;):!:

Well just to be fair that money has been kept in an account for art. If they turn around and do something else with it some citizens might get up in arms. A no win deal.

We had a similar "tax" that was to sunset this past June but the council decided to keep it until 2013 and use it in the general fund. It should raise about 800k a year to go into the rainy day fund. Too bad raises are in that fund.

we have the same thing here, citizens voted it in years ago, now are screaming whenever one of the arsy-fartsy things go in. They forget they voted for it, and that the money can't be used for anything else.

But while we are not filling positions because of the budget, and cutting everything else to the bone, it does suck to see the money spent.............

Artists among any cultural group are the ones who best carry the torch of what it means to be human. That's been true ever since we swang down from the tree limbs and became bipedal.
