Using 2021 IBC, I'm designing a prototype type VA 4-story R-2 building that will utilize open-ended corridors and exterior stairs; and use 1027.6 exception 3 to eliminate the 2-hour stair enclosure and associated doors. Question: Does the corridor still meet the requirements of an "open-ended corridor" IF a fire wall [to comply with 506.2.1] is incorporated in the middle of the building. The cross-corridor fire doors at the fire wall will be on magnetic "hold opens" but they will close during a fire event. I believe code intent for open-ended corridors to use natural ventilation will be reduced when these doors close and therefore, may not allow for the use of 1027.6 exception 3 [without additional exterior stairs or ventilation openings at the fire wall].
