2011 NEC pump gfci

Greetings,

680.21 © is a new requirement for "outlets supplying pool pumps....whether by receptacle or direct connection, shall be provided with GFCI protection for personnel." So, does this mean that any pool pump 240v/20 amp need be on gfci if it's hardwired or cord connected?
