So I am looking at 308.5.1 and are wondering how you interpret "A child day care facility that provides care for more than five but not more than 100 children 2 1/2 years or less of age.

The question what type of facility can you hold a use group to an age of 2 1/2 or less, looking for examples

Thank you.

I am not sure I understand your question. A child day care facility is a type of building that you can hold to an age of 2-1/2 years old. Of course, adults that operate the facility are permitted, but the requirement states that the use is limited to the care of children of that age or less and meets the other conditions stated (i.e., rooms are on the level of exit discharge and one exit directly to the exterior) can be classified as a Group E. Otherwise, it must be classified as a Group I-4.

Yep....if you have +5 2.5 YO kid in a daycare setting, it qualifies, regardless of the mix....It's all about the number of kids that might not be able to self evacuate and needing specials accommodations...

308.5 Institutional Group I-4, day care facilities. Institutional
Group I-4 occupancy shall include buildings and
structures occupied by more than five persons of any age
who receive custodial care for fewer than 24 hours per day
by persons other than parents or guardians; relatives by
blood, marriage or adoption; and in a place other than the
home of the person cared for. This group shall include, but
not be limited to, the following:
Adult day care
Child day care
308.5.1 Classification as Group E. A child day care
facility that provides care for more than five but not more
than 100 children 21/2 years or less of age, where the
rooms in which the children are cared for are located on a
level of exit discharge serving such rooms and each of
these child care rooms has an exit door directly to the
exterior, shall be classified as Group E.
