As far as I know, most jurisdictions in Canada are now on 2020 Codes or some version thereof (BCBC, OBC). I'm wondering what folks are seeing as issues with adapting to the changes?

It's early days for us at this moment, but so far the big issue seems to be that nobody in the building industry has a freaking clue about 9.8.8.1(4) and 9.8.8.1(5) regarding 90 cm sill heights OR a guard/WOCD on residential windows >1.8m from the ground.

FYI: I also had an application from a client who is placing a modular home - the manufacturer claimed NBC 2020 compliance but gave no calculations for 9.36 compliance (although they meet by the small volume metric.) Which, to me, says they aren't actually aware of the new requirements for either 9.36 compliance or 9.8.8.1(4/5).

The issue for manufactured homes is that they need to know what tier is adopted in the province. They might meet tier 1, which is adopted in Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island, but not tier 2 that is adopted in New Brunswick.

Saying "we meet 2020 9.36" in my mind just means you meet tier 1.

I've kicked back one application so far. They can meet 9.36 by volume. I want them to show me. I suspect I'm going to get a call from some sales guy tomorrow who won't know a damn thing.

Maybe I'm being prickish, but if you're constructing modular/mini homes and you're claiming A277 compliance, asking for data on how you meet 9.36 should be cake.

I've already rejected one home this manufacturer constructed because they didn't meet seismic bracing requirements. That was fun.
