World now has 1 billion square feet of green buildings

The U.S. Green Building Council has announced that it has certified 1 billion square feet of commercial buildings as eco-friendly, with another 6 billion square feet of LEED-registered projects under construction. "This traction demonstrates the transformation of the way we design, build and operate buildings," said Rick Fedrizzi, the group's president and CEO

As I recall, it was stated during the hearings for the IECC in Charlotte that the mayors and governors were very much in favor of the "green codes". Well if a bunch of desk jockey polititians think its a good thing it must be so. NOT!! Thats all I needed to hear to determine how to vote.

LEED does mean something... LEED makes you bleed green (during the construction phase). How many trees die creating the documentation? (Just one example)

LEED isn't the only (or probably best) way to guarantee Green building practices.

The Fact that the trumpet florishes were released for such a insignificant event displays clearly the MARKETING nature of the value of LEED

rather than a valid issue such as

"LEED listed construction is Certified as having conserved 1 Billion BTUH'S per Hour last week"

wont happen cause its not measured
