Access Board to Hold Public Briefing on Proposed Rights-of-Way Guidelines (July 26)

On July 26, the U.S. Access Board will hold a briefing for the public and a press conference on newly proposed guidelines for accessible public rights-of-way that will be released for comment that day. These guidelines will address access for people with disabilities to streets and sidewalks, pedestrian signals, on-street parking, street furniture, and other elements. Board representatives will review requirements of the rule and will field questions from members of the media. All our welcome to attend this event which will take place 11:00 to 12:30 (ET) at the Board’s meeting space at 1331 F Street, NW, Suite 800, in downtown Washington, D.C. Copies of the proposed guidelines and related information will be made available at the briefing.

For further information, contact Dave Yanchulis at news@access-board.gov, (202) 272-0026 (v), or (202) 272-0027 (TTY).

I wonder if there will be any big changes for detectable warning pads. They have a short life expectancy in cold weather climates (i.e., expansion/water, maintenance, etc.), and we find manual wheelchairs have increased difficulty when curb ramps are installed at their maximum slope of 8.33%.

Thanks again for posting.

'The Board will conduct a public webinar on August 9, 12:00-1:30 ET to review the proposed rule and discuss subjects where input from the public is sought. To resiter for this free Webinar, visit:
