Adding soffit to MBR for lights, ignoring HVAC

It is an alarm/speaker but not a smoke detector
I have no experience with a high rise building. Is the alarm tied in with a central alarm system? If one kitchen out of fifty catches fire, how are the other forty-nine alerted.
