I know this exists but I can not find it. I can find where on the exterior of a building the address is required to be displayed at a point that is viewable from the road. But I can not find where or in which code and section requires each apartment or condo unit, etc to have an address or unit number on the door or near the door to the unit.

Anybody know which code book and section?

Thanks

505.1 Address identification.
New and existing buildings shall have approved address numbers, building numbers or approved building identification placed in a position that is plainly legible and visible from the street or road fronting the property. These numbers shall contrast with their background. Where required by the fire code official, address numbers shall be provided in additional approved locations to facilitate emergency response. Address numbers shall be Arabic numbers or alphabetical letters. Numbers shall be a minimum of 4 inches (101.6 mm) high with a minimum stroke width of 0.5 inch (12.7 mm). Where access is by means of a private road and the building cannot be viewed from the public way , a monument, pole or other sign or means shall be used to identify the structure. Address numbers shall be maintained.

rktect 1,

The Fire Code is the correct & applicable code.
Some jurisdictions will modify Section 505.1 to
have the address numbers specified to their
desires, or add similar language to their own
ordinances [ i.e. - what size, ...what location,
...the numbers will be installed in the
horizontal position only, ...on contrasting back-
grounds, ...in the French Arcadian type font,
and on and on and on.

New York State adds an exception for E-911 that uses other than Street addresses (apparently some number properties sequentially as opposed to street by street).

May also check state and local Zoning, and Ordinances or statues, we require it at the local level as well.
