2013 CBC. Trying to determine the access aisle width requirement for an accessible stall. This is for an end opening out swinging compartment. The approach is: Latch approach, pull side. Per 11B-404.2.4.1 (h) I have been going with a 60" width. This is in an existing high rise that we are looking to bring up to code. We are bound by shafts and structure and elevators so we just cannot get the 60" width. I have between 50" and 53" depending on the location. There seems to be an exception for the ambulatory stall to allow a 44" access aisle. 11B-604.8.2. If the door were in swinging and my approach was from the push side the requirement is only 48" per 11B-604.8.1.2

I believe I am interpreting these sections correctly. Is this a candidate for being technically infeasible or some other method or exception? :banghd

I believe this may be construed as being technically infeasible unless the room can be reconfigured and not cost over 20% of the total budget for the remodel/alteration.
I concur

The stall is actually as it was constructed in 1989. The oldest code book I have handy is 1998 CBC. In 98 it appears the 60" would have been required by Figure 11B-26B. We are removing one urinal from the men's side to enlarge the "mothers room". We will be altering the entry doors into the rooms and updating finishes. water closets are being shifted a bit for compliance. 2010 ADA Standards Figure 604.8.1.2 indicates a 42" requirement for this approach. I guess we will be complying with ADA, but not CBC?
