Assembly MOE CPET?

COMMON PATH OF EGRESS TRAVEL. That portion of exit access which the occupants are required to traverse before two separate and distinct paths of egress travel to two exits are available. Paths that merge are common paths of travel. Common paths of egress travel shall be included within the permitted travel distance.

EXIT ACCESS. That portion of a means of egress system that leads from any occupied portion of a building or structure to an exit.

OCCUPIABLE SPACE. A room or enclosed space designed for human occupancy in which individuals congregate for amusement, educational or similar purposes or in which occupants are engaged at labor, and which is equipped with means of egress and light and ventilation facilities meeting the requirements of this code.

Do you consider a bathroom as an occupiable space by code?
 
YEP...Has a lock on it that says so....OCCUPIED.;)....The Assembly MOE section (1024 or 1028 or 1029) depending on the year you want to use reads more like the intent is seating areas (which I would not really consider the restrooms)...But also talks about tables and other equipment and stuff so it seems to not be just our typical assembly seating (auditoriums and theatres and stuff) but should apply to dining areas. Just spitballing to see how far others would take that....

I suppose if you are constipated that you might be '...engaged at labor...' while on the porcelain throne.
Other than that, and clever signage aside, toilet rooms are not 'occupiable' space under the meaning and intent of the Code IMHO.

I am inclined to agree with you on the large bathrooms in schools, stadiums, and other large assembly areas. However a 1-3 holer would not be a big concern.

Not sure, if in farthest corner of say an open office could add 20-30 feet travel??
 
Measurement.
Exit access travel distance shall be measured from the most remote point within a story along the natural and unobstructed path of horizontal and vertical egress travel to the entrance to an exit.


 
Thank you CDA, clearly presented.
Seems to indicate that the "fartherest" corner of any room (exclusive of its use (a Potty) may be no more than 75' (unless sprinklered) from the decision point of (2) alternatives.
 
1028.8 Common path of egress travel.
The common path of egress travel shall not exceed 30 feet (9144 mm) from any seat to a point where an occupant has a choice of two paths of egress travel to two exits.

I do not believe a toilet seat is the intent of this section

I'll play along **steveray**.

What if the restroom is on the fartherest side of the Assembly Area,
and the 30' CPET is exceeded ?.....Will occupants have to travel
farther than the allowable 30', thru the Assembly Area, before
making a choice of their path of exit ?

NS....It's probably about 20' out of the RR and maybe 10' through seating....MT, that is what I was referring to in my post #3.

1024 ASSEMBLY
1024.1 General. Occupancies in Group A which contain seats, tables, displays, equipment or other material shall comply with this section.

The assembly section does not handle just seating areas IMO. But I guess until I get to a 50 person bathroom (in an A occupancy), I will not call a bathroom an A...
