AV in type 2B building?

Hello,

I need to add some cat 6 and maybe other cabling in-wall before the electrical rough-in inspection tomorrow.

What are the conduit requirements? Can I just use 3/4 blue plastic flex conduit?

I'm going out on a limb to say you can use ENT - aka Smurf - as long as it's concealed and not exposed. Fill and bend radius and anchoring all need to follow NEC.

Thanks Bill, how do I check the limb is not going to break?

Do to project timelines I don’t want to jeopardize electrical rough in inspection due to this…

Waiting for someone else to confirm. And it could be different in your jurisdiction. Pretty sure it's allowed by NEC in concealed spaces.

I figured better to have something. And it future proofs things a bit.

Would that have to be plenum rated cable if above hung ceilings?

Above 3 stories and above ceilings there are thermal barrier requirements

2021 IBC 603.1.3 Electrical - The use of electrical wiring methods with combustible insulation, tubing, raceways and related components shall be permitted where installed in accordance with the limitations of the code.

So, it is legal to use smurf in Type I and II buildings if you follow the limitations of plenum spaces out of the IMC (no smurf in plenum spaces unless it is listed as plenum rated) and if you follow the limitations of Article 362 of the NEC.

The rule steveray refers to about not being exposed under three stories is NEC 362.10(1) and (2). Drywall meets the thermal protection requirements, so if you are inside of a wall that gets drywall, you should be good. That and protecting it from physical damage, no high temperatures, no corrosive environments, no direct earth burial, no direct sunlight, etc...

Ok great. It’s within drywall, single story 17 ft to deck.
