It was called out by an engineer during a home inspection. We are hired to do the fix. I've looked through all of Boise Cascade docs and tables but no specifics about blocking. We don't feel it's necessary to address but I don't present our justification to engineers without references. Was hoping to have some sort of documentation saying otherwise. Might have to just reach out to Boise Cascade and see if they can provide clarification rather than try to interpret and get in a pissing match with engineer. Engineer obviously feels strongly about his position on holes in blocking on BCIs.
The blocking runs down the center support beam that catches the structural BCI joists. Blocking is placed between joists and resting on the support beam. So, they are not part of the structural component.
It's not necessary to have a driver's license or insurance either... until it is...
Just confirmed with a structural engineer up here. We live in a seismic zone so blocking is required. However, they are not structural so it is not necessary to address the repair.
