I don't know how many architects or engineers we have here but, if there are any, I have a request. Working as a plan reviewer, I am constantly astonished by the lack of quality and completeness of construction documents we receive for permit. It has been a number of years since I last drew up construction documents, but things that I was taught HAD to be on the "plans" even when I was an intern seem to be mysteries to many design professionals today.

I have started putting together a book with the intent/hope that it will provide a guide to architects and PEs about what they need to include in their construction documents if they want to get the permit approved on the first review. At the moment, the first draft is up to about 28 pages / 14,000 words. I have no idea whether or not I'm going in the right direction, and I wondered if anyone would be interested in volunteering to have a look at it to give me some feedback as to both content and format. If you're interested, please let me know and I'll send a copy of the file by PM.

Thanks for looking..

@Yankee Chronicler, as an architect, construction specifier, and code consultant, I, too, am amazed at what is and isn't included in a set of drawings. I am constantly advising my clients about the content (or lack thereof) included in their drawings.

I would be happy to review your list.

I'd be happy to review it as well. My (personal) goal is to provide a set of drawings that the plan reviewers can check without too much heartburn, and to provide sufficient details for the GC to build from the drawings. My mantra to our interns is to pretend they are seeing the drawings for the first time and don't know/understand the intent (nor, unfortunately, the code). If the drawings can't convey that we haven't done our job.

It appears that as a non-sawhorse, I can't attach files to PMs through this site. If those who are willing to take a look at this would be willing to PM me with an e-mail address, I can send the file that way.

Thank you.
