Ok, we have dual 1 1/2 plastic from the well. 1 supply and one return for geothermal units. Tied to both is a series of 1 1/2" and 1 1/4" copper that distributes to the 2 geothermal heat pumps AND to the domestic water. Domestic will be pex after the 1 1/4" copper T. The HVAC guys are the ones that have done all the copper work, and the term "bond" doesn't seem to even be in their vocabulary. So the question, is a bond required? where? Being a building inspector, this isn't my area, but being the builder and first time user of a geothermal heating system, I find I'd like to know before someone fails an inspection. I can get pictures of the setup if need be.

I found the answer to be yes. the electrician agreed and is installing it.

This electrician also agrees. From the 08 NEC.

The bonding jumper(s) shall be installed in accordance with 250.64(A), (B), and (E). The points of attachment of the bonding jumper(s) shall be accessible.

(1) General. Metal water piping system(s) installed in or attached to a building or structure shall be bonded to the service equipment enclosure, the grounded conductor at the service, the grounding electrode conductor where of sufficient size, or to the one or more grounding electrodes used. The bonding jumper(s) shall be sized in accordance with Table 250.66 except as permitted in 250.104(A)(2) and (A)(3).

I'm not sure I agree with this install requiring bonding. What is the difference between the freon lines and the water lines for the geothermal units. The equipment ground should be enough???

this is the same pipe that supplies domestic use water as well. It simply turns to pex right at the point past the Geo manifold that is built up with copper.
