In the Canadian Building Code 2015, does a Part 9 building receive a 3.2.2 classification? For example, if I have a Group D building under 600m2, do I require a 3.2.263 - 3.2.255 building classification or do I just stick with Group D classification under 9.10.2.1(1).

Not usually. The designer can choose to use Part 3 as an alternative (see 9.10.8.11) in determining the fire resistance ratings of floors, roofs, loadbearing walls, columns, and arches. In that case, they would designate a 3.2.2. classification, but I have not seen anyone go down this path as it is usually more restrictive. Otherwise, it is just a Group D and needs to meet Table 9.10.8.1.

Thank you!
