My Boy has asked me to talk to his career class about what I do for a living. I asked what the kids wanted to here or what the teachers goal was and he had already asked the teacher the question. The response was to take about 20 minutes and say what I wanted. That is it! Anyone else, I would not do it, but my Boy has asked me and that is important to me.

Now, what do I talk about? Show them a bucket of grease from a restaurant? Trip the fire alarm and empty the school? OK, maybe not the last. Tell how much I enjoy what I do? How about what my company does to keep people fire safe? What lead to starting my business and my experiences as a fireman?

Tripping the fire alarm sounds better all the time.

I have a small company that cleans exhaust systems, services extinguishers, emergency lights, chemical suppression systems, sprinkler systems and subs fire alarm work to another small company. My fire service includes service as a volunteer, paid ff and emt, assistant chief/training officer. I was also on a plant firefighting crew, my job was to push the 150 #wheeled unit to the fire scene, then I stood there, gasping while someone else pulled the hose. My total experience totals over 40 years.

My most important job is trying to guide my Boy to adulthood.

Well to begin with I would outline the Health Safety aspects and why what you do is of some importance in the scheme of things.

Perhaps even a fire drill, but first contact the school for approval. :)

What grade are you talking to?

The easy fall back is firefighter

I think though a talk on maybe two items you do with your company will fly just the same.

But pictures are great, either some 11x14 or see if you are in one if these high tech school rooms where you can thumb drive pictures to the screen

A few pictures of dirty hoods and that will cure them of earring out.

I think you can tie your company to firefighting also, in that in away you are trying to prevent fires and there 24 hrs in case one happens, with your kitchen, alarms and sprinklers

Show them pictures of kitchen fires and explain that you prevent them
