funny you bring up intertek, they sent out a survey asking if we would allow intertek listed fire alarm systems to be installed.

The building official should focus on whether the product complies with the provisions in the building code.

The well known issuers of these reports, such as UL, try to create the impression that they are somehow better qualified than their competition when the fact is that both meeti the requirements of the building code. When building officials say that they will only accept reports from XYZ they are abusing their authority but also they are helping to create a monopoly where the manufacturers believe they have to get a report from XYZ if they want to sell their product.

You should use the same due diligance in evaluating a UL report as you do in evaluating an Intertek report
