I consider myself fairly intelligent. Why can't I figure out what is being voted on, and when, and what it all means? Watching this hot mess confuses me more each year. Maybe it has to be this way, but I really believe a lot of votes are cast for the opposite of the intended vote. Listened to the hearings most of the day, and many of the speakers don't even know what particular proposal/PC they are trying to speak to.

It isn't simple. Luckily I've only ever had a few proposals in any cycle, and a few good sources on staff if I'm confused.

And face it, those most active do o it full time, not once every few years like me.

I will say I think overall it's a wonderfully fair and democratic process, and in a way kind of addictive. 35 years of code changes and committees.

Yes, it is definitely geared for those whose attention is focused on it rather than those like me watching it on one of three screens at my desk. At times I can follow perfectly, other times I just can't follow the order of things.

You just need to know that you are voting for or against the committee action rather than the actual proposal.....That is a good start....But I have been stressing to my ICC rep that they need to do more training if they truly do want more participation....There were only about 200 voters in the room on Wednesday....:(

That is the part I have the most trouble with. I'm sure I have cast votes for the exact opposite of what I was intending because of this. Makes me wonder how many times this happens.

Far too often....Talk to your local ICC governmental rep to see if they can hook you up with training? Guessing I could get you to sit in our region VI stuff but that is more technical discussion than voting process....

I sit in our code development meetings, and even the movers and shakers get confused on what they are voting for sometimes. In the end I'm sure they figure it out, but it is interesting to see how confused everyone gets at times. I think I have a handle on it now, if I can keep up with the speed at which the transitions occur. In the actual CDP voting process online, speed isn't an issue, its more just trying to keep up with the in-person comments.
