So I've just gotten a code review back for an elementary school and there is a comment that i don't know how to answer.

"OBC Section 307.1.1 Hazardous materials; Clarify equipment, material(s), and processes. Clarify types and amounts of materials to be used and stored."

This is a school. There will be paper & some cleaning supplies in the janitors closet. I've never seen that comment on a school before.

I do not believe that common cleaning chemicals would be an issue unless the school stocks a high quantity that would exceed the maximum quantities allowed. I think their concern may be more focused on chemicals used for science labs; however, as an elementary school, I doubt there would be much, if any, quantities that would exceed the maximums.

how do you think i should respond to the comment?
this elementary school doesn't have any science rooms and no hazardous chemicals.

During and after COVID the amount of hand sanitizer has been an issue we have found in all of our schools during fire inspections.

After carefully reading the code, i just can't see how a school (use group E) falls into any of the categories defined by 307.1.1.

Send the forms to the school and they can input just what chemicals they have and the quantities. This is required on every project in San Diego to have a Haz mat Questionnaire.
